Clan Bisset of Lessendrum in Aberdeenshire, Scotland; descended from a Anglo-Norman knight who accompanied William the Lion back to Scotland from captivity in England in 1174. Walter Byset, Lord of Aboyne murdered the Earl of Atholl in a fit of envy after he was defeated by him in tournament in 1242, and he was forced to flee to Ireland and then England. Among notable members of the family were Habakkuk Bisset, Writer to the Signet during the reign of James IV, and Peter Bisset, Professor of Canon Law at the University of Bologna.
