Moncreiffe
Clan Moncreiffe of that Ilk (Moncreiffe, Gaelic, Monadh croibhe) in Perthshire, Scotland. The clan is said to have descended from Maldred, Regent of Cumbria and brother of King Duncan I. Sir Matthew de Muncrephe received the lands from King Alexander II in 1248. Three main branches with different spellings descend from the Eighth Laird of Moncreiffe (died 1496), Moncreiffe of that Ilk, Moncreiff of Tulliebole and Moncrieff of Bandirran, and the noble family of Moncrif of France, also descends from the eighth Laird.
Arms: Argent, a lion rampant gules, armed and langued azure, a chief ermine.
Crest: Issuing from a crest coronet or, a demi-lion rampant gules, armed and langued azure.
Motto: Sur esperancce (Upon hope).
