From Glenlee in Kirkcudbright, Scotland, the family were created baronets in 1788; a Sept of Clan Macfarlane of that Ilk and Arroquhar, Dumbartonshire, and descended on the distaff from Alwyn, the Pictish Earl of Lennox, whose younger son Gilchrist received lands at Arroquhar on the shores of Loch Long at the end of the twelfth century.
Arms: Argent, a cross moline azure, the base barry wavy vert, in chief a lozenge between two mullets of the second.
Crest: A dexter hand with the first and second fingers pointing upwards proper.
Supporters. (To be used by the baronet only) Two roebucks proper.
Motto: Manent optima cœlo.
