Clan Porterfield or Porter and sometimes Durward of that Ilk, Scotland; derived from the office of hereditary doorkeeper or janitor of a castle or religious house. The office of durward to the king was for a considerable time hereditary in the family of Lundin. The family of Porterfield of that Ilk took their name from inheriting the lands or porterfields pertaining to the office of the porter at the Abbey of Paisley.. John Porterfield of that Ilk obtained from James III a charter of confirmation of his lands of Porterfield in 1460.

Arms: Or, a bendlet between a stag’s head erased in chief and a hunting horn in base sable, garnished gules.

Crest: A branch of palm proper.

Motto: Sub pondere sursum (In difficulty I look upward).
