Clan Brodie of that Ilk, in Morayshire, Scotland, deriving from Malcolm, Thane of Brodie, temp. King Alexander III. The lands of Brodie being confirmed to Michael Brodie of that place by Robert the Bruce. Alexander Brodie of Brodie , 1617-1679, supported the Reformation, attacking Elgin Cathedral to destroy its idols and later went on to represent Elgin in Parliament. In 1651 he was summonded to England by Oliver Cromwell to consider a union between Scotland and England. His son, Alexander Brodie was appointed Lord Lyon, King of Arms in 1729.
