Maclachlan
Clan Maclachlan of that Ilk, Argyllshire, Scotland; of Norse lineage, also called Lochlainn, they were descendants of King Niall of the Nine Hostages in Ulster, where the family were virtual rulers until they were defeated in 1224 by King Brian O'Neill, their chief Donall MacLochlainn being killed. They soon settled in Scotland, led there by the renowned warrior Lachlan Mor.
Arms: Quarterly, 1st, or, a lion rampant gules; 2nd, argent, a dexter hand couped fessways holding a cross pattée paleways gules; 3rd, or, a galley her oars in saltire sable, placed in the sea proper; 4th, argent, in the base unde vert, a salmon naiant proper.
Crest: Out of a ducal coronet or, a castle set upon a rock all proper.
Motto: Fortis et fidus (Brave and faithful).
