Clan Muir of Scotland. Descended from Thomas Delamore of Rowallan, Ayrshire, who was executor the the will of Devorgilla, the mother of John Balliol, King of Scots. Rowallan was seized from the Mures by Sir Walter Comyn, temp. Alexander III, but restored after Gilchrist Mure distinquished himself at the Battle of Largs in 1263, Gilchrist married Sir Walter Comyn's daughter, and their son Archibald was killed at the Siege of Berwick. Archibald's great granddaughter married Robert II of Scotland and was mother of Robert III.
Arms: (Modern) Quarterly, 1st and 4th, Argent, on a fess azure, three stars of the first (Muir); 2nd and 3rd, azure, three garbs or (Cumming)
Crest: A savage head couped proper.
Motto: Durum Patientia frango ( I overcome difficulty by patience).
