Clan Buchanan of the Island of Clarinch, Scotland. Descended from Muiredach Muinderg mac Forggo, died 489 A.D. and First King of Ulster. His descendant, Anselan O Kyan, son of Niall mac Duib Thuinne, King of Ulster, was granted the lands of Buchanan by Loch Lomond for his service against the Danes in 1016.
Arms: Or, a lion rampant sable, armed and langues gules, within a double tressure flory counter flory of the second.
Crest: A dexter hand holding up a ducal cap (proper), tufted on the top with a rose gules, within two laurel branches in orle(also proper).
Motto: Clarior hinc honos (Hence the brighter honour).
