Clan Drummond of Inchmahome and Drummond Castle, Concraig, Scotland; descended from a nobleman from Hungary, who accompanied the Saxon heir to the Crown of England, Edgar the Atheling and his two sisters when they sought exile in Scotland from the Normans in 1067. Gilbert de Dromund of Dumbarton and Malcolm de Drummond both submitted to Edward I of England. in 1296, but both later followed Robert the Bruce and fought at the Battle of Bannockburn, receiving lands in Perthshire in gratitude. In 1357, Annabella Drummond married, John, High Steward of Scotland, later Robert III. Sir John Drummond was created Lord Drummond in 1488. He was imprisoned for a year in Blackness Castle for striking the Lord Lyon, King of Arms. His son David Drummond was executed following a feud with another clan. James, the fourth Lord Drummond, was created Earl of Perth in 1605. In 1853 George Drummond, Duc de Melfort, Comte de Lussan and Baron de Valrose in the peerage of France, was restored by Act of Parliament to the title of Earl of Perth.
